Pellet insertion is a relatively simple in-office procedure done under local anesthesia It takes an average of 4-10 minutes in total. The pellets are inserted subcutaneously (under the fatty lining of skin) in the upper buttocks through a very small incision. The incision is then closed with sterile tape strips. Patients should not be able to feel the implants under the skin. Hormone implants placed under the skin release small, physiologic doses of hormones, keeping a patient’s levels in therapeutic range until the next pellet procedure typically every 4 months.
In studies, when compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to be extremely effective for relief of menopausal symptoms, maintenance of bone density, restoration of sleep patterns, and improvement in sex drive, libido, sexual response and performance, relief of depression, anxiety, irritability, mood swings, and many others. Pellet implants have been used to treat migraine and menstrual headaches. It also helps with vaginal dryness, incontinence, urinary urgency, and frequency. Bio-identical Hormone Pellets have been shown to decrease body fat, and a greater capacity for losing weight. Moreover, hundreds of studies show natural testosterone to be HIGHLY PREVENTATIVE against breast cancer, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s dementia to name a few.
A comprehensive panel of testing is performed. We use these results to then customize your hormone levels to optimal levels to experience all the protective benefits while gaining the great feeling of optimal wellness! Each customized hormone pellet insertion lasts between 4-6 months in women depending on your activity level. A complete thyroid panel and vitamin D3 level is performed as well. These act in synergy with the hormone pellet and may also be supplemented depending on your levels.
It is important to optimize all of these levels to achieve the maximum benefits. Since the release of hormone is regulated by your cardiac output, patients that are very active may require more frequent insertions than a patent with a more sedentary lifestyle. Most patients are able to tell when their hormone levels start to decline! Testing may be performed at various intervals to maintain optimal hormone levels.
