Frequently Asked Questions

  • Women experiencing gynecologic concerns related to aging or lack of estrogen such as vaginal dryness, decreased elasticity, decreased sensation, stress urinary incontinence, painful scars from episiotomy repair at childbirth, sensation of an acquired wide vagina, or just wanting to enhance function of the clitoris and vagina.

Breast Cancer survivors who typically cannot take estrogen have significant changes related to lack of estrogen. With the MonaLisa Touch LASER, cancer survivors experience significant improvement in vaginal dryness and elasticity resulting in an enhanced quality of life. I offer this treatment at half price for cancer survivors.

  • The in-office procedure is virtually painless. The outside of the vagina is numbed with a powerful Lidocaine cream for 25-30 minutes prior to the procedure. A small probe is then inserted into the vaginal canal and the gentle LASER treatment is used to treat the entire inside of the vagina, this takes about 5 minutes. An external probe is then used on the outside of the vagina including the clitoris, urethra, labia minora and majora. This also takes about 5 minutes. After completion of the treatment, numbing cream is then reapplied. Patients may experience some mild discomfort or spotting several hours after the procedure. Some Lidocaine ointment can be prescribed as needed. Please refer to the Mona Lisa Touch instructions under the FORMS tab.

  • Typically, the treatment consists of a series of 3, 10-15 minutes sessions at least 6-weeks apart. Additional sessions may be required depending on the condition of your vaginal tissues. A boost is then performed on a yearly basis.

  • Possible side effects may include spotting, mild vaginal bleeding, pink or brown vaginal discharge, mild watery vaginal discharge, redness, swelling, inflammation, tenderness, itching, irritation, burning upon urination, and mild discomfort.

  • Patients can return to normal activities after the procedure but should refrain from anything in the vagina for 48 hours. You can wash with mild soap and water and dry with a hair dryer on low. Apply either petroleum jelly or Lidocaine ointment after voiding and washing.
